To retain the Slovenian language in Carinthia and to breathe new life, the chairman of the Community of Carinthian Slovenes (SKS), Bernard Sadovnik, suggests the establishment of a special fund by the federal government. He presented this idea on Wednesday at a meeting of representatives of the Slovenian ethnic group with the Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon in Ljubljana.
“Finally, the Austrian government – or rather the former representatives of the Austrian government – bears the responsibility that we are so little today. The federal government now has the obligation to remedy part of this catastrophe by providing funds for the promotion of the Slovenian language in areas of the news, said Sadovnik said.
Slovenia supports the idea
Fajon supported the idea and suggested that it made a joint initiative of the ethnic group and the Slovenian government, said it.
Anniversary of state contract as an opportunity for positive steps
On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the signing of the State Convention, which protects the rights of the Slovenian and Croatian minority, Sadovnik expresses the hope that Austria will finally meet its obligations and comply with Article 7 by ensuring that bilingness is in the judiciary and the educational system respect.
“Finally tackle open minority problems”
“From various personal conversations at the highest level, we got the impression that the Austrian federal government is really ready to finally tackle open minority problems. I think Austria now has the chance to prove itself, and we have to give the new government this opportunity,” he said.
The Slovenian Foreign Minister also sees this year as an opportunity to take a step forward in the affairs of bilingualism.
