Before US President Donald Trump wants to announce new extensive rates against various trading partners on the ‘Liberation Day’ that he described in this way, new punitive measures were known: the customs of 25 percent should come to all beer imports, the already known car rates should come into effect on Thursday morning.
In the official journal of the United States, the exact data for the entry into force of the car rates of 25 percent are announced. As far as the Autozölle is concerned, you must apply on Thursday at 00.01 (US East Coast period; 6.01 hours CEST), according to the Federal Register. The surcharges for car parts at the same height must therefore be effective on 3 May.
In addition, the Ministry of Trade announced the rates for all beer imports in the US Federal Gazette as part of an extension of already announced allowances on aluminum products. Empty aluminum doses are also registered by the measures that must also apply from Friday at 0.01 hours (US East Coast period).
US import German beer worth $ 70 million
The document states the general customs code for “beer from Malz”, without a subcode for beer imports in glass bottles. A request from the Reuters news agency from the Ministry of Commerce for the announcement initially remained unanswered. The measure would be a considerable blow to the import of beer, which according to data from the US Statistics Office in 2024 was more than $ 7.5 billion (6.95 billion euros). Most imports came from Mexico with $ 6.3 billion, followed by the Netherlands with $ 683 million, Ireland with $ 192 million and Canada with $ 73 million. The import from Germany earned $ 70.3 million.
Special rates already apply to all deliveries from China (20 percent), and they are currently exposed to Mexico and Canada. Taxes on steel and aluminum of 25%are already in force. This mainly influences the foot alpine and the aluminum center Amag. However, both deliver special products, for example for railways or planes. They are difficult to replace there, so that their customers will probably pay the higher prices.
