In the middle of the German coalition negotiations, the Union and CDU boss Friedrich Merz lose approval. The AfD, on the other hand, reaches a survey.
Merz, probably the next Chancellor in Germany, is confronted with an always negative public opinion. In the ‘Germany -Trend’ of the ARD published on Thursday evening, the Union, its party, only 26 percent – is closely followed by the AfD, which reaches his previous best with 24 percent.
Even 70 percent of the respondents expressed dissatisfied or very dissatisfied with Merz personally.
The negotiations with the SPD about a coalition meanwhile make progress according to the participants. But the strengthening of the AfD and the Survey Weak to the CDU also ensures the likely coalition partner, the SPD.
Worry about the right pressure in society
“The falling survey values of the trade union show a confidence crisis,” says SPD parliamentary manager Katja Mast on Friday. Mast diagnose a “right from the right” that “everyone in society” should move.
In this context, the SPD politician addressed the Chancellor in SPE: “A future Chancellor Friedrich Merz should be clearly dedicated to social cohesion and must ensure that our country is not noticeable by newspaper headlines, but is managed with a quiet hand.”
Coalition negotiations continue
In this mood environment, the CDU, SPD and CSU continued their confidential negotiations on a coalition agreement. CSU boss Markus Söder and the SPD chairman Lars Klingbeil optimistically said on Thursday evening in ZDF that the formation of the government would succeed.
Söder said in the program “Maybrit Illner” that he does not believe that the conversations can still fail: “We have to do it too.” Nevertheless, he referred to open problems. “Nothing has been agreed if everything has not been agreed,” said the CSU boss. Now a “confidence culture” must be created between the future coalitors. The trade union continues to focus on taxes. In addition, “substantial savings” must be “saved” – with the reimbursement of citizens, the heating law and in the state apparatus.
SPD Baas Klingbeil did not want to mention specific amounts on the ZDF program, but emphasized that there were “natural savings options in the household”. “It is very important that we set the signal, the state also saves itself,” said Klingbeil. Both party leaders did not give a concrete view of the further schedule.
