A possible military single from the United States would be delicate under international law. Arturo Sarukhán, former Mexican ambassador in Washington, said that such a step would be a “violation of international law” and could damage bilateral relationships enormously. At the same time, however, he also criticized the failures of the Mexican government in the fight against drug trafficking.
Former Defense Minister Mike Esper already reported in a book that Trump suggested in 2020 to deny rockets in the Mexican area and then deny this. Trump rejected this presentation.

In the meantime, the legal basis for possible American activities was extended by the classification of different cartels than foreign terrorist organizations.
