France and Saudi Arabia are currently preparing a joint conference, where the international pressure on Israel and the United States in the direction of two-state solution in the Israeli Palestine conflict must be increased. As part of the event in June, French President Emmanuel Macron wants to officially recognize the Palestinian state. Israeli leadership is raging.
Macron has the “mutual recognition” in the conference at the June conference. “I will do it (…) Because I think it will be correct at some point, and because I would also like to participate in a collective dynamic that everyone who has to defend Palestine is also able to recognize Israel in their side,” Macron said in an interview broadcast on Wednesday. This would also “enable” to be clear to those who deny Israel’s right to exist, “emphasized Macron and referred to Iran.
Israel warns: “would reduce safety for the region”
The Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar responded with sharp criticism to the efforts of the French. “A unilateral recognition of a fictional Palestinian state would be a reward of terrorism and a buoyancy for Hamas,” Saar wrote in online service X on Thursday. This would further reduce the prospect of peace and safety for the region.
Palestinian state recognized by 147 countries
Since the proclamation of its own sovereignty in 1988 by the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), 147 of the 193 countries of the United Nations recognized this Palestinian independence. Since 2012, the Palestinians have had an observation status in the general meeting of the UN. Via this upgrade, the Palestinians gained access to the International Criminal Court and other United Nations sub -organizations.
Full membership and therefore recognition as an independent state have so far not been given because of the veto of the United States and other large Western states. Austria can also be found among those states that the state of Palestine does not recognize.
