Time and again agricultural topics in EU politics are increasingly being shown. And time and time again, agriculture of all Member States formulated itself independently of similar requirements. To be able to speak with one voice in the future, it is now planned: the establishment of a European Farmers’ Association within the European People’s Party.
“A faith without deed is a field without seeds,” is a well -known farmer who says. The same applies to farmers in the EU policy. The ÖVP-Internne Zoff around the controversial Mercosur-Pact, the Green Solo, the renature and Europe-wide debates on the removal of the tax reduction for the Agrardiesel, demonstrate on the one hand that the problems of farmers are comparable in Europe and on the other hand they are closely coordination between the farm.
This is precisely why people are now actively active for the establishment of a European Farmers ‘Association within the European People’s Party (EPP) at the Lower Austrian Farmers’ Association. A plan that Paul Nemecek has been working in the background for years. And a plan that has already been discussed with Manfred Weber, the chairman of the European People’s Party.
“Bundle Opportunities”
“A European federation of farmers within the EPP offers the unique opportunity to bundle the voice of the rural population at European level and to effectively represent their concerns. We state the challenges and needs of agriculture in the center of European politics and at the same time to strengthen the safety in Europe. It was therefore a logical consequence and a first step -Familie” Familie “”
Agency in the European Farm
The lower Austria Bauernbündler in the EU parliament, Alexander Bernhuber, also sees the initiative a strong signal for the future of European agriculture: “Only acquiring farmers can have an effect on a European level. If 10 million farms in the EU get a joint voice.
Intensive discussions in the EU countries
Bernhuber also has intensive discussions with farmers’ representatives from all over Europe to set up strong national advocacy in the EPP: “The challenges of agriculture are comparable in all EU countries, from increasing production costs, exuberant bureaucracy and unfair trade conditions to the growing pressure of the growing environmental-milieu-Milieu-MiliLieu.”
First goal: stricter rules for food input
The European umbrella organization is intended to help Farmers’ Association to maintain its requirements even more effectively. The first goal is stricter rules for the import of food. An import stop must apply to food produced under the EU standards. The most recent example: potatoes made from Egypt, which are infected with pesticides that have been forbidden for decades. While EU farmers meet the strictest circumstances, you have looked at importing. “This double morality is no longer justified,” the farmers believe.
“It is time to change the rules! Our national family businesses need more political support – at European level. A European Farmers’ Association gives us the opportunity to take on challenges together, to combine strength and to introduce the perspectives of agriculture in European legislation,” Bernhuber concludes.
