Housing municipal councilor Kathrin Gaál (Spö) in the large “Krone” interview. Read here which landlords and residents of the community are waiting in the future and what the vice -mayor says for a high intake, changes in the rental legislation and an Airbnb ban.
“Krone”: Mrs. City Councilor, Vienna has 2 million inhabitants, in 2040 it will be 2.2 million, around 200,000 more than now. This is like Linz. Where should people live?
Kathrin Gaál: Population growth is certainly a big challenge, but shows that people would like to live in Vienna. We did our homework. We have made a floor offer in the residential fund for many years and have about three million square meters of land that we can continue through the real estate developer competitions for social housing. We build many funded homes and municipal building and implement corresponding renovations. If possible, it will be raised and compacted there. So we have launched around 1,000 apartments in recent years.
