Despite the higher shortage forecasts, Neos Boss Beate Meinl Reisinger wants to stick to the government’s savings plan. On Sunday she also spoke for a tax autonomy of the federal states. The federal government is currently occupying taxes.
For the distribution there is then a complicated and sometimes no targeted financial equalization. Then the countries and communities spend the money. Since many players are involved, there is inefficiency in the health sector, the Minister of Foreign Affairs criticized on Sunday in the ORF “Press Hour”.
It is also not understandable that the budget numbers would change month after month. The government will work to obtain the corresponding data from the federal states and municipalities earlier.
“Satisfied with basic requirements”
This year 6.4 billion euros must be saved, in addition to 8.7 billion euros. VICE CHASELIER Andreas Babler and Minister of Finance Markus Marterbauer (both Spö) also see this sum as sufficient. This year, the Fiscal Council expects a deficit of 4.4 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP). If the already planned measures are not sufficient, more is needed, Meinl Reisinger said. With this you probably only meet the basic requirements of the EU committee.
Experts assume that taxes must be increased, for example through new and higher taxes. In the previous year the deficit was 4.7 percent.
