“Krone” in the middle – in the grip of the Houthi: The Daily Fight in Yemen

Date:

Since 2014, Yemen has experienced one of the most difficult civil wars in the world. The Houthi rebels that are supported by Iran have brought large parts of the country under their control and terrorize Israel, the merchant ships in the Red Sea and their own people. A Yemenit that must suffer from the oppressive ceremonies of the militia reports the “crown” of his daily life.

Faisal Hani has lived a nightmare for ten years. His home town of Taiz, located in southwestern Yemen, has been checked by Houthi Rebels for ten years. Hani, a journalist, has decided to openly report on the conditions – although he could pay for his life. “Every day means danger. There is permanent fear.” Nevertheless, he declares himself a telephone conversation with the “Krone” editor who is in Israel after the Houthi had again shot rockets to the airport in Tel Aviv.

Since October 2023, shortly after the Hamas massacre in Israel with 1200 deaths on October 7, the Houthi has increasingly attacked Israel and also merchant ships in the Red Sea, one of the world’s most important shipping routes. The rebels claim to show solidarity with Hamas and the Palestinians. But Faisal Hani knows that there is something else behind it.
