Men in particular – Only every third supports military service for women

Date:

Only about every third person (34) speaks in a Gallup survey for military service for women. For female respondents it is only every fifth, almost half (49 percent) for men. Approval is higher than the general military service that seven out of ten respondents want to retain.

There are differences after the age: for maintaining military service, there are especially older than 50 years (79 percent). In the age group up to 30 years, approximately six out of ten respondents (59 percent) are for general military service. According to the young respondents, this will not be expanded. The same applies to services to the community.

In general, however, more than every second person (51 percent) for a longer basic military service than six months, a longer community service is unable to majority (43 percent).

Difference according to election behavior
Depending on gender, there are differences in conscription for women, but also depending on election behavior. Both men (49 percent) and voters of the Greens (52 percent) and the Neos (48 percent) are for this idea.

Older population groups that remember threats such as the Cold War or the Yugoslav wars would have a stronger relationship with mandatory mandatory than younger, said the head of the Gallup Institute, Andrea Fronaschütz. “Conscription is the cornerstone of our army and therefore the basis of our all safety,” said Defense Klaudia Tanner (ÖVP) Minister. It is worth “breathing into the extensive national defense”.

At the beginning of April, 1,000 people were interviewed who are representative of the Austrian population aged 16 and older.
