The parliament building was built on the basis of the architecture of ancient Greece – the birthplace of democracy. But do those who walk through these rooms every day, our chosen representatives who are still anchored democratic ideals? Do you actually feel that you are still being represented by you?
At the foot of the impressive slopes of parliament, the Rossbändlichen – symbol of the need to control unbridled emotions and personal ambitions of the MPs. Where, however, self -interest triumphs about reason, the state of the state and the public interest, create passions suffer from the general public. And we are well aware of where this leads to: Buwog, Eurofighter, Telekom, Casag, Ibiza. In view of this one can already wonder: our politicians are still in the best sense of the population, or have they saved self -protection and enrichment?
Forgotten story, lost values?
If you follow the slope, the images remind important historians of historical responsibility and to learn from the past. But many citizens today wonder whether the former major parties and employees of the second republic have not long forgotten their own history and ideals. An employee party that exposes internal serious fighting to the sovereignty of the interpretation of social democracy about the heads of employees. A Christian-Social Party that pursued the shadow of a party in the race for voices and success, which operates voters in the circles of the identities. Many regular voters hardly recognize their former political home country and no longer feel represented with their values. Do you share these worries? Do you make your “Kreuzerl” out of the deepest conviction or do you only choose “The Little Evil”?
Open dialogue or show stage?
The heart of parliament is the Agora, named after the marketplace of the Greek old. Just as it was once submitted for goods and commercial goods, politicians try to bring world images and political ideologies to people. It is a meeting place and stands for an open dialogue and – such as the glass dome of parliament – transparency. But how real and open is the debate culture? When the market organizations, representatives of interests and lobbyists who specifically lead the discourse – is the best legislation really created for people? Are political discussions still honest, or have they developed for a long time into pure productions?
Discuss with: Do you still feel represented by our parties – and if not, what do you think that should change urgently?
