The temporary president of South Korea, Han Duck-Sooo, has resigned from his office. He wants to take on an even greater responsibility in the future, the 75-year-old announced. In the beginning he gave no details.
South Korean media speculate that he could compete as a presidential candidate on 3 June. Han Duck-Sooo himself did not confirm this immediately. As a minister, he served in his running sandwich, both conservative and left -liberal presidents. In the meantime, he also worked as a diplomat, including the ambassador of South Korea for the United States.
Until the new elections, Minister of Finance Choi Sang-Mok now becomes a transitional chairman. The left-wing opposition leader Lee Jae-Myung, who has been a presidential candidate for the second time, leads the last surveys.
Death penalty for ex-president?
The then Prime Minister Han had taken over the office of President Yoon Su-Yeol during the state crisis in South Korea.
