The designated German Minister of the Interior Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) has announced rapid measures against illegal migration. For this purpose, border controls are tightened and the rejection increased, the CSU politician emphasized.
The first decisions will be made on Wednesday after he took office. However, there will be no border closures, Dobind revealed in an interview with the “Bild Am Sonntag”.
CDU boss Friedrich Merz will be chosen on Tuesday as German Chancellor in the Bundestag. The head of the future Chancellor Thorsten Frei (CDU) recently announced sharper border controls from the first day of the new government – albeit with a time limit.
“The figures in illegal migration must fall. To make humanity a success and to succeed equally, control, clarity and consistency are needed. We prepare national and European decisions,” Dobrindt said.
According to information from the newspaper, several thousand officials must also be used as a reinforcement for border controls.
Police Union fears ping-pong game
The Police Union (GDP) responds skeptically to the announcement of Dobrindt. GDP is also for measures to contain irregular migration, said Andreas Roßkopf, chairman of the GDP district of the federal police and customs. A significant increase in the number of police officers on the border is not permanent not to be held on to the current staff.
The union member also expressed doubts about the announcements of trade union politicians to reject asylum seekers at the German country borders, without the permission of neighboring countries such as Poland or Austria. “From Wednesday there should be no ping -pong game with neighboring countries,” warned Roßkopf. He added: “If we are supposed to reject asylum seekers, it must be legally safe – and so far I have missed the answer.”
Border controls: Poland against Dobrindt
The Polish top diplomat in Germany, Jan Tombinski, also warned the future federal government for sharpening checks on the border with German-Polish. The current checks are “a problem for daily border traffic and the functioning of the EU internal market,” he said the magazine “Politico”.
