Putin and Trump on a collision course? The Kremlin insists on an early presidential discussion, but leaves a possible meeting in May in the middle. Trump had said that this month he is considering a meeting with Putin during his trip to Saudi Arabia.
The spokesperson for the Russian presidential office, Dmitri Peskow, said on Monday before the press that Putin had not planned a trip there, but such a meeting was clear on everyone’s lips. “And in many ways we consider it necessary,” said Peskow.
“It must be prepared accordingly and requires efforts at different levels of expert levels”, including the continuation of contacts between Moscow and Washington, Peskow added. “There has been nothing concrete so far.”
Since the start of the invasion of Ukraine, not top meetings
Putin has no longer touched Putin since the top with Trump’s predecessor Joe Biden in June 2021 in Geneva. In February 2022, Russia started his large -scale invasion of Ukraine, resulting in international sanctions against Russia.
Trump will travel to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates this month to participate in a top with the heads of the Gulf states and government, Axios reported. Putin and Trump have already called several times this year.
The American president, who had stated in the election campaign that he would end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours, said on the weekend that he and his consultants had “had” very good conversations “about Russia and Ukraine in recent days.
