According to the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli army should conquer the Gaza Strip and keep it occupied in the long term. Tens of thousands of reservists are currently mobilized for the large scales offensive. On Tuesday, the right -wing extremist Minister of Finance Bezhalel Smotrich explained how an Israeli victory against Hamas would take a look: “The Gaza Strip is completely destroyed.”
The inhabitants, ie the Palestinians, had to be concentrated in a “humanitarian zone” in the south of the coastal strip, south of the former Israeli settlement of Morag, Smotrich said at a Settler conference on the West Bank. From there, the residents must then leave the Gaza Strip in large numbers and go to third countries. There will be no Hamas in the Gaza Strip within six months, the minister said.
Hamas: continuation of cease -furen talks pointless
The official goal of the Israeli government is the destruction of the terrorist organization Hamas and the release of the hostages caught by Islamist extremists. Right -wing extremist politicians such as Smotrich also strive to resist the Gaza Strip, from which Israel had withdrawn 20 years ago.
On Tuesday, the Hamas gave further conversations with Israel about a cease -the fires under the given circumstances. “It makes no sense to consider (…) New suggestions for a ceasefire as long as the war of hunger and extermination in the Gaza Strip continues,” said the high-ranking Hamas representative Basem Naim.
