Agreement reached – Merz calls for customs duties with Trump

Date:

The new Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) from Germany has called with US President Donald Trump. The federal government announced that the two had agreed to “want to arrange the trade conflicts quickly”.

Moreover, a “close cooperation with the aim of terminating the war in Ukraine” was agreed, said the spokesperson for the Stefan Kornelius government at the end of Thursday evening. On Thursday, Merz also called Ukrainian President Wolodyymyr Senskyj and promised him further support in the defense.

Merz shares Trump’s requirement that the war must be terminated quickly. “Russia must now agree to a ceasefiring -fire to create space for negotiations,” said Kornelius. Trump and Merz had agreed a narrow exchange and mutual visits to the US and Germany.

So far, Merz and US President Donald Trump have not known each other personally. The two heads of the telephone conversation from the government were expected because the relationships between Germany, the whole of Europe and the US were recently tense. One reason is the rates that the Trump government has introduced.

The American vice president JD Vance hit the Munich safety conference in Washington in Washington on Thursday. “I am still convinced that the United States and Europe are playing in the same team.”
