The EU committee has submitted a new proposal for more efficient asylum procedures and safe third countries. Accordingly, the transit must be sufficient to apply the concept of the safe third country.
This stipulates that asylum applications are not -inadmissible if the applicants can get effective protection in a third country. Until now, however, a connection between the country in question and the person must be proven. That should change now. The EU countries can decide for themselves whether they want to apply this criterion or not.
Non -counseled minors are excluded. Until now, the EU-wide list of safe third countries has recorded Kosovo, Bangladesh, Colombia, Egypt, India, Morocco and Tunisia. This was presented in Brussels mid -April. This is intended to accelerate asylum procedures because applications of these countries have little chance of success. National lists must continue to apply.
“In complete harmony with values and fundamental rights”
The concept of the safe third countries means that asylum seekers who enter such a state do not necessarily do not apply for asylum in the country in which they are last.
“(…) With the Pact of Migration and Asylum, the Commission, the Member States and the European Parliament have agreed a common system to tackle this pressure. The revised concept of the safe third country is another instrument that helps Member States to process asylum applications more efficient Brunner (ÖVP).
The EU asiel and the migration pact must be implemented in June 2026. This is intended to sharpen the previous rules a lot.
