The US Senate officially confirmed Charles Kushner, the father of Donald Trump’s son -in -law Jared Kushner, as the new American ambassador in France on Monday. The appointment offers criticism at least because of the past of the 69-year-old.
In 2005, Kushner guilty of tax evasion, intimidation of a witness and false statement to the federal election committee. He served a two -year prison sentence.
Forgiven by Trump, now Top Job
Despite this criminal record, Kushner was granted grace in 2020 by US President Trump. Now with the diplomatic top post in Paris, there is another step of rehabilitation – and another example of Trump’s controversial personnel policy, which preferred confidants and relatives.
During his hearing in the US Senate, Kushner admitted his “serious mistakes” and said that his past could even make him a better ambassador. “I paid a price for my bad judgment,” said Kushner for the committee.
Trump puts his clan in position
The Line -Up is part of a number of Trump nominations, in which people from his family environment play a central role. Kimberly Guilfoyle, the former fiancé of his eldest son Donald Trump Jr., was brought into play as a possible American ambassador in France. Massad Boulos, the Father -in -Waw of Trump’s daughter Tiffany, advises him on the Middle East about issues of foreign policy.
With the appointment of Charles Kushner, Trump determines a different sign that loyalty in his environment is often higher than political experience or integrity.
