No customs agreement? – Trump: “China has broken its agreement”

Date:

In the trade conflict between China and the United States, both parties have again dealt with accusations. The Ministry of Commerce of Beijing speaks about “Continuously new discriminatory limitations”, US President Donald Trump that China “has completely broken his agreement (…)”.

Almost three weeks ago the parties had agreed in Geneva. Accordingly, the mutual special rates were reduced for 90 days to goods-de American special rates to Chinese import from 145 to 30 percent and the Chinese allowances of the United States of 125 to ten percent.

At the time, Trump described the opening of China as the main goal. The US government had recently tightened the tone towards its trading partner. “The bad news is that China, that may not surprise some, has completely broken his agreement with us,” Trump said on the social platform of De Waarheid on Friday. “So much to be Mr. Nice Guy.” He has not carried out examples of the alleged violation of the agreement. Other representatives of the White House criticized that the rates had been lowered, but there were other trade barriers such as export restrictions on rare earths.

Is there a direct conversation now?
After Geneva’s conversations, the American side continued to issue new discriminatory restrictions on China, against the Ministry of Commerce in Beijing. So there would now be measures that further limited the sale of AI chips and chip design software to China. Another discrimination is the cancellation of Visa Chinese students in the United States.

Trump said he was sure that he could speak directly with Chinese President Xi Jinping. “And hopefully we will find a solution.” The Chinese government initially did not confirm such a conversation.
