The U-turn of Donald Trump in the Syria policy of the United States apparently continues. According to a high -ranking presidential consultant, the US Army is now greatly reducing the number of bases in Syria.
In an interview with the Turkish broadcaster NTV, the American special envoy said for Syria, Thomas Barrack, that there will only be one base instead of eight. “I can assure you that our current Syrian policy will not be comparable to the Syria policy of the past hundred years, because none of these approaches has worked.” Reducing the military basic points is an important part of this turn.
Fighters from abroad can go to the Syrian army
Barrack also indicated Reuters’s news agency that the United States are giving the green light for the rather very controversial recognition of thousands of Islamic hunters from abroad to the Syrian army.
The United States have stationed around 2,000 soldiers, especially in northeastern Syria. Together with local armed forces, the US Army is to prevent the Islamic State from being strengthened. Large parts of Syria and Iraq were conquered in 2014, but was later pushed back.
Relationships also improved to the EU
Since the fall of the old ruler Bashar al-Assad, many countries have intensified their relationships with Syria, of which the former Islamist rebel manager Ahmed al-Sharaa is currently a temporary president. The EU has also agreed to cancel its economic sanctions against Syria.
