According to the Chinese government, US President Donald has invested Trump with his counterpart Xi Jinping. This was reported on Friday by China’s State News Agency Xinhua. Specific details about the content of the conversation have not been announced. The White House did not confirm the phone call at first.
It was the first known conversation between the two heads of state since Trump’s office in January. The presidents had spoken to each other for a few days before Trump’s swearing – but then – as far as the public – had no direct contact.
Trump: “Exceptionally difficult” to close a deal
The day before the phone, Trump had explained Trump on his social social platform that he could, but it was “exceptionally difficult” to conclude a “deal” with the Chinese president. In recent months, the US president had responded to a possible conversation with Xi and left open whether there could have been a direct exchange.
The telephone conversation took place against the background of a persistent and intensified trade conflict between the two countries. Trump has been a difficult trade policy for China since he took office, although he regularly emphasizes that he has a good relationship with XI.
Escalation in punitive rates
In various steps up to 145 percent, the Republican had increased the punitive rates from the import from China to the US. Beijing responded. Halfway through the afternoon both parties took a break in the escalation -spiral and they temporarily agreed on a mutual reduction in the punitive rates. In the end, however, the tone had become rougher again and the basic disagreements were still unsolved.
New threat of sanctions against China
The situation receives extra explosiveness of a sanction package against Russia drawn up in the US Senate. According to the Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, this is aimed at countries that continue to lose Russian oil, gas and other energy products. China would therefore be influenced in particular by the planned punitive measures.
Usually, after discussions between state heads and government centers, public centers inform public centers about such calls, which gives extra weight to the evasive communication of both parties for this conversation.
