Salzburg History – Premiere for festival in times of famine

The first governor of Salzburg is 80 and priest. Franz Rehrl comes to power at 31 and drives seven hours over his new Glocknerstrasse. Part 3 of the “Power and Fainting” series by Hans Peter Hasenöhrl.

TRANSITION. In 1816 the Duchy of Salzburg fell to Austria, it is managed as a “Salzachk trip”. In 1850, Salzburg became a crown country of the Habsburg monarchy and only the first governor in 1918. He is already 80 years old and a priest: the member of the cathedral chapter, Alois Winkler. A devastating plague (“Spanish flu”) breaks out, unrest and Summit strikes in a hunger demonstration of 600 women on Mozartplatz. The head of the state remains calm and does not use state violence.
