From autumn, immigrant children will follow their own orientation classes in the school age, provided that they have no experience with educational institutions. The National Council decided on Friday with a voice against the FPö.
The visit is planned for a maximum of six months. During this time the children must be prepared for classes in Austria, for example by learning the first knowledge of German. Own groups can be set for this, such as the levels of school school. The transfer to a German financing class should then be flexible. Similar models are already available in Vienna and Vorarlberg. Now school education law has changed in such a way that orientation classes will be introduced nationwide from 1 September.
Number of places unclear
You don’t know how many places would actually be needed, “but we are prepared, also for the future,” said Education Minister Christoph Return (Neos). The government parties want to relieve teachers by introducing orientation classes. “The goal is that the children can find their way at school and fundamental values after attending the orientation class, such as respect, tolerance and responsibility (…). This is lived integration and a real contribution to more equality,” De Neos said.
Only the liberties spoke out against the orientation classes. This would only fight symptoms, said MP Hermann Brückl. It is not the task of the school and teachers to perform such a pure integration measure. This should better take over clubs that are involved in this area.
More training for elementary educators
On Friday, new training offers for kindergarten trainers were also decided on Friday. Specialists and universities can now offer their own studies. In recent years, in addition to regular training at the federal training institutions or colleagues for adults, other rails have established themselves, such as the university course “Elementar+” for assistant troops or the university course including elementary pedagogy.
