A chancellor on holiday during the energy crisis would not send a good signal – so Karl Nehammer stays at Ballhausplatz.
Politicians traditionally take their summer vacation in August. However, the energy crisis of 2022 will only allow opposition politicians to take a break:
- SPÖ leader Pamela-Rendi-Wagner is on the Tauplitz with her family. You can then breathe in the sea air in Italy.
- FPÖ chairman Herbert Kickl goes into the mountains as always.
- NEOS boss Beate Meinl-Reisinger traditionally stays in the Salzkammergut.
Kogler: “Time permitting”
The planning at the top of the government looks different. Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler (Greens) is said to have planned a vacation in the second half of August – but only if time permits. The holiday destination is unclear. The only certainty is that it will be a train journey.
Festival visits also canceled
Chancellor Nehammer, on the other hand, is now certain: after his cancellation for the festivals in Bregenz and Salzburg, he is also canceling his planned family vacation for the first half of August. “The chancellor wants to focus his full attention on the fight against inflation. That is why he canceled his holiday in Greece, which was scheduled for the first half of August,” said a spokesman for Nehammer when asked about “Krone”.
Two long weekends
Nehammer limits his summer vacation in August to two long weekends with his family.
An energy crisis and the chancellor on holiday abroad would certainly damage the image too much.
