October credit – the state of Lower Austria presents an energy roadmap against inflation

Date:

So now: Lower Austria no longer wants to wait for the federal government when it comes to energy costs and presents its own timetable to relieve its compatriots. And so that things can go really fast now, the state parliament is also convened for a special session – despite the summer holidays until September 22. From October 1, the money will be credited to the electricity bill.

Before the plans were presented, Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner convened a crisis team with representatives from the energy industry and experts such as Christian Helmenstein, head of the renowned Economica Institute. Then she appeared before the press with ÖVP State Deputy Stephan Pernkopf (energy). “We want fast and targeted help,” says Mikl-Leitner. No one should freeze in Lower Austria.

Decisions now, money later
In order for this to happen in the autumn, the course must be charted now. As reported, an extraordinary meeting of the state government will be held on Thursday. The state parliament could approve the energy roadmap as early as Monday. The special meeting is necessary so that funding can be applied for from 1 September – and paid out from 1 October.

Mikl-Leitner follows his own advice
The blue-yellow advance is not surprising: Mikl-Leitner was the first high-ranking ÖVP politician to speak out in favor of a national cap on electricity prices. After rather negative initial reactions, the federal party finally turned around and now wants to at least “look” at the relevant models.

Lower Austria continues
Now Lower Austria, where elections are expected to take place in January 2023, is going its own way. Recently, the People’s Party’s hesitant course across all political orientations has been criticized. Just last week, black state manager Bernhard Ebner underlined September 22 as the deadline for the aid package.

The blue and yellow electricity price discount
In order to reduce dependence on external energy sources, an energy saving tangent of 20 percent of the average consumption per household has been established. The starting point for the calculation of this household deduction is the average annual electricity consumption of E-Control. In concrete terms, all Lower Austrians who have their main residence in the vast country from 1 July and who have an electricity contract will benefit from this.

The compatriots save so much
A total of eleven cents in savings per qualifying kilowatt hour is credited to Lower Austria’s electricity bill. For example, in a household with two persons, the Lower Austrian discount yields 272.36 euros, in a household with four persons 415.80 euros.
