The PSOE is celebrating an urgent and extraordinary Federal Committee this Saturday where they go ratify the new appointments to the socialist leadershipperformed by the general secretary, Pedro Sánchez, who has various ministers in relevant positions in the Executive to give the party a boost in the face of the new election cycle and manage to come back against the PP. Sánchez has appointed the Minister of Finance and Public Administration, Mary Jesus Montero as ‘number two’ of the party to replace Adriana Lastra, the head of Education and Vocational Training, Pillar Joy, as spokesman for the Federal Executive hitherto occupied by Felipe Sicilia. In addition, the deputy and lehendakari, Patxi López, will be the new parliamentary spokesman in the Congress of Deputies, a position until now held by Canarian deputy Héctor Gómez.
So, Sánchez adjusts some of the changes he made less than a year ago in the party, which were ratified at the 40th Congress of the PSOE held in Valencia in mid-October. There he appointed Sicilia, who has only been in office for nine months, as spokesperson for the Executive. The same is happening with Héctor Gómez, elected by Sánchez on September 1, 2021 — with the start of the political course — and leaving the lead less than a year later.
The names of those elected to lead the party were announced this Thursday, although the change in the socialist leadership was set in motion after the resignation last Monday of the deputy general secretary of the PSOE, Adriana Lastra, who He cited personal reasons and a prolonged absence from work to withdraw officially.
Upon his arrival at the Federal Committee of the PSOE, PSE-EE Secretary General Eneko Anduezastated on Saturday that the PSOE project is “supported” today with the new appointments to the party, stressing that Patxi López is “the highest moral and political benchmark”.
