The U-committee is investigating a suspected illegal tax deduction on Wednesday. In the dispute about the files, an advertisement against ex-Finance Minister Gernot Blümel (ÖVP) was lost.
Being invited to a subcommittee as a source of information is not very pleasant for most people. Entrepreneur Siegfried Wolf also wanted to avoid being questioned by the ÖVP-U Commission, but has now – after threatening a fine – promised to come by on Wednesday. The charges brought him a suspected illegal tax refund.
Wolf allegedly intervened at the Ministry of Finance because of a tax arrears. According to chats that have become public, ex-Finance Minister Hans-Jörg Schelling (ÖVP) would have been involved in the case – he is listed as a suspect in the case by the Economic and Corruption Prosecution Service (WKStA) and is expected to be also be a source of information in the U-committee.
Charges against Blümel foiled
It has now become known that the WKStA will not investigate ex-Finance Minister Gernot Blümel (ÖVP) for abuse of office. The SPÖ had reported him on suspicion of abuse of office – because of delayed submission of files to the Ibiza U-commission.
Wolfgang Peschorn, head of the Finanzprokuratur, who acted as a mediator in the dispute over the files, was therefore the target of the investigators. He is expected on Thursday as an informant in the U-committee. Georg Frölichsthal, head of the legal group in Alexander Van der Bellen’s presidential office, was questioned about the case before him.
