The President of Parliament, Laura Borras (JxCat)is one step away from being suspended as a deputy, after they open oral trial for an alleged corruption caseleading to the ERC, CUP and PSC warning on Tuesday that they intend to apply the rules of the Catalan Chamber.

In particular, Article 25(4) of the Parliament’s Regulations requires the suspension of deputies who have had an oral trial for corruption, a point that can now dispel Borràs, who has taken to court by the Supreme Court of Catalonia crimes of prevariation and false documentationfor distributing contracts from the Institució de les Lletres Catalanes – which he headed until 2018 – to award them to an acquaintance.

Since it is a corruption-related case, the approach taken by the ERC and the CUP to the case is different from that of the Independentistas prosecuted by the trials, despite Borràs insisting that “no case” and in which he is the victim of “political persecution” of the state to try to remove it from the front lines, for which it asks pro-independence forces to respect the “anti-repressive unit”.

Parliament’s Table will decide on a Extraordinary encounter if he suspends the current Speaker of the Chamber.

The balance of power in the Table is clearly unfavorable for the Speaker of Parliament at the moment, as JxCat has only two members – Borràs, who was also unable to vote on this issue due to a clear conflict of interest, and Aurora Madaula-, against two from ERC, two more from the PSC and one from the CUP.
