SPÖ leader Pamela Rendi-Wagner is strict towards the end of the corona quarantine announced for early August. The government took a “purely political decision, without facts and evidence”. Rendi-Wagner considered this an “irresponsible approach” in the run-up to the Summer Council of Ministers. The Greens were disappointed across the board and gave in to the ÖVP again. According to the SPÖ leader, “the entire government is therefore ready to resign”.
The government ignored the opinions of experts and took “a great risk at the expense of the health of the people of Austria”, criticized Rendi-Wagner. With the quarantine off, practically all protective measures would be lifted and the pandemic declared over. “There is 1. no vaccination progress, 2. no measures to protect against the spread (masks, quarantine), 3. increasing numbers, 4. more travel with risk of new variants”.
Rendi-Wagner sees the end of the quarantine as a completely wrong signal to the population – at a time when the number of infections is increasing rapidly and due to increased travel activity, new variants are also on their way to Europe. “The pandemic is not over yet. The government has a duty to take responsibility as long as this pandemic lasts,” said the SPÖ leader.
