Ideas against the crisis – core: temperature limits, speed limits, rationing

Date:

In view of the energy crisis, ideas for possible restrictions are being rolled out in politics. In several newspaper interviews on Sunday, former SPÖ chancellor Christian Kern and the two SPÖ governors Peter Kaiser and Michael Ludwig reflected on where energy could be saved.

“I’m afraid people are expected to tell a few truths,” Kern says in the “Kurier” and also gives examples: “You’re going to have to discuss temperature limits, speed limits and rationing in the industry. There’s no point in going to that. We know we are dancing on very thin ice.”

Kaiser Calls For Exemption From High Speeds And Standby Mode
“We will have to tighten our belts,” says Kaiser in the “Presse”. The Carinthian provincial governor believes that energy saving should initially work on a voluntary basis, but also has concrete suggestions: “We are going to see whether the light really should be on all night. Or whether people voluntarily think about how much petrol I use when driving with what speed. It’s also about completely turning off the televisions and not having the permanent standby mode. There are a number of possibilities that can be done on a small scale, but also lead to greater social understanding for larger measures.”

Mayor of Vienna wants “well-thought-out and thoughtful” measures
Ludwig also explains in the “Presse” that Vienna can take energy-saving measures. However, “well thought out and thoughtful” where it intervenes in public life. “Because it makes no sense to bother people with measures that don’t help.” When asked whether it was getting colder in town hall, the mayor explained that there was an option to lower the room temperature. But there are also a number of other measures, “from the elevator to the heating”. The mayor wants to announce which facilities could no longer be opened ‘in due course’.
