In view of record inflation, the Chamber of Labor (AK) intends to submit an application for the establishment of the price committee. “For the first time since 2008, when there was an application for food prices, we will submit an application to Minister of Economy Martin Kocher,” AK President Renate Anderl announced on Friday. It is about fuel and heating oil.
The task of the price committee is to monitor price developments and, if necessary, to take countermeasures. The minister must check whether the high prices for fuel and heating oil are justified, Anderl told the “Wiener Zeitung”.
Price for fuel and heating oil disproportionately high?
Under the Price Act, the Minister of Economic Affairs is obliged to investigate whether the prices for certain products are disproportionately high or have increased more than the international average. The prize committee, chaired by the Minister of Economic Affairs, consists of representatives of the Chamber of Labour, the Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber of Agriculture and the Ministry of Finance.
