Date:

The Lehendakari met representatives of the PNV and the PSE-EE this Wednesday as part of the round of meetings over the crisis caused by the war in Ukraine.

The Lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu, today concluded with the PNV and the PSE-EE the round of contacts with the parties represented in the Basque Parliament to analyze the situation created by the war in Ukraine. On behalf of the jeltzales, Andoni Ortuzar and Joseba Egibar took part in the meeting, and Eneko Andueza and Ekain Rico took part on the socialist side.

the delegation of GDP has given a positive assessment of the efforts made, in his opinion, by the Lehendakari and the Basque Government: “On the one hand because they are close to the sectors most affected (refugees, families, companies, etc.) the other, for cooperation with institutions and associations of the third social sector”.

The PNV believes that the pandemic, the invasion of Ukraine and its consequences require a response from the highest unit. In this regard, he understands that the good budgetary situation of the institutions enables them to respond flexibly to societal needs. It therefore advocates encouraging public investment to revive economic activity and employment, and to guarantee the financing of the Next funds.

The representatives of Jeltzal have also analyzed the contributions of the political groups with the Lehendakari and agree that there is room for consensus to reach agreement with the opposition.

Eneko Andueza: “It’s time for unity of action”

After meeting with the Lehendakari, PSE-EE Secretary General Eneko Andueza stressed that “it is time for unity of action, the situation requires the agreement of everyone, not only the governments but also the groups that are part of of the opposition.

At the same time, he stressed that this is not the time for populist or demagogic speeches, but “from the responsibility that belongs to each of them” to protect the most vulnerable, to erect a social shield. Likewise, Andueza has justified the social-democratic recipes to cope with the situation arising from the war in Ukraine.

In a statement to the press asking whether there is a possibility for a major deal, Eneko Andueza replied that the coalition government has been looking for major deals since the start of the legislature and has urged the opposition to take responsibility and to guide.

All the proposals of the political groups will be discussed this Friday in a monographic plenary session of the Basque Parliament to analyze the situation that has arisen after the invasion of Ukraine.
