The Team Suzuki Ecstar rider suffered a horrific crash at turn 4 on the first lap of Sunday’s Austrian Grand Prix when he was in seventh position in the leading group and suffered a highside. Initial tests and X-rays carried out at the Austrian circuit medical center revealed a small fracture of the talus bone of his right ankle, a minor impact injury suffered by the Balearic pilot.

Left ankle injury ruled out

On Monday, he visited Dr. Juan Garcías at the Hospital of Juaneda Miramar in Palma de Mallorca, where he underwent a CT scan and additional MRI, because the doctors wanted to remove the bone damage in the head of the left talus, as well as the right one. Despite giving a more encouraging diagnosis than expected, Dr. Garcías the ligament and bone damage on the right side and recommended caution, advising Mir to rest completely for the next 15 days, which will make Misano sick.

“The patient had a talocalcaneal ligament injury with a small bony avulsion. A stable tibiofibular joint, but with a bony contusion at the head of the talus. In this case, the tibiofibular joint was stable and there was no gross instability of the navicular bone. Conclusion: talus-calcaneal-navicular ligament injuries with instability grade I – II”, indicates a shared medical diagnosis by statement.

Mir will undergo a new round of scans to assess the injuries after his 15-day break, to determine the course of treatment and, if eligible, will try to race at Motorland for the Aragon Grand Prix in 16 to September 18. This GP marks the start of a triplet of consecutive races with a trip to Motegi and Buriram.

Through a statement from the Suzuki Ecstar team, the MotoGP world champion reported that “after undergoing various tests, the doctors advised me 15 days off and another examination after that period. Unfortunately , I will miss the Misano race, but I am confident that I will be back in Aragón. I want to thank Dainese and AGV for protecting me and avoiding more serious injuries after my heavy crash on Sunday. It is a difficult period, but I am convinced that we will come back stronger to offer more good opportunities to my team and to all of you who support me”.

Livio Suppo, the team manager of the Suzuki team, explained that “I feel sorry for Joan. Problems keep cropping up in this difficult season. In any case, we must remain optimistic. The crash was very strong and in late the injury is serious. , but it could be worse, so let’s be positive and see how he recovers in the next 15 days to hopefully be ready for Aragon.”

In the coming days, Suzuki and Dorna will examine the best solution for Misano and whether to replace the Majorcan rider who also has an official announcement of his signing by the Repsol Honda team pending.
