Nick Kyrgios is back in the news for extra-sports issues. After a few successful weeks on the slopes, the Aussie is back to his old ways with a bad relationship.
And it was a fan who was ejected from Center Court during the Wimbledon men’s final as a result of a player’s complaint has taken legal action against the Australian tennis player for what he describes as a “reckless and completely baseless accusation”.
During a changeover in his match against Novak Djokovic, Kyrgios complained to the referee that a female spectator was interrupting him while serving, he was said to be “drunk as a skunk in the front row” and identified as “looking like he’s had about 700 drinks”.
Spectator Anna Palus said in a statement released by her lawyers on Tuesday that filed a defamation suit against Kyrgios in an attempt to clear his name. “During the final, Nick Kyrgios made a reckless and completely unfounded accusation against me,” Palus said in the statement.
“Not only did it cause a lot of damage that day, it resulted in my temporary removal from the trackInstead, Mr. Kyrgios’ false accusation was broadcast to, and read by, millions of people around the world, causing great harm and distress to me and my family.”
Palus said he was taking steps “to obtain vindication and avoid a repeat of the accusation.” Said the compensation will be donated to a charity.
“I hope that Mr Kyrgios will reflect on the damage he has caused me and my family and offer a speedy resolution to this matter.Palus said in a statement from his law firm Brett Wilson LLP. “However, if you don’t want to do this, I am committed to suing the Superior Court.”
The incident occurred in the third set of the match where Djokovic went on to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (3). It was Kyrgios’ first final at a Grand Slam tournament.
In addition, Nick Kyrgios will appear in court in October on charges of alleged assault.. Police announced in July that he would have to appear in court this August in connection with a “common assault” case that happened in December, an incident with his ex-partner (Chiara Passari) which, according to Australian lawyer Jason Moffett, was is in the “context of a domestic relationship”.
Kyrgios did not appear at the preliminary hearing and today a judge in Canberra rejected an appeal lodged by the tennis player’s lawyer to delay the process for several months.
The tennis player’s attorney requested that the hearing be held on November 25 due to the tennis player’s busy schedule, but did not offer many details.
The tennis player’s lawyer requested that the 27-year-old player and current world number 26 appear before the judges on November 25, when his busy tennis schedule allowed him to attend the trial. However, the magistrate rejected this appeal and the tennis player must come to testify on October 4.
