The draw for the 1/16 final of the English League Cup produced an explosive tie between Manchester City and Chelsea at the beginning of November, before the World Cup celebrations, at the Etihad Stadium.
The tie at the top pits reigning Premier League champions City against Chelsea, who lost last season’s League Cup final to Liverpool on penalties after a 0-0 draw at Wembley.
The first two rounds of the League Cup have been played and 19 of the 20 Premier League teams are still in contention. In fact, the first seven classified in last season’s league championship will debut in the 1/16 final: City, Chelsea, as well as Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal, Manchester United and West Ham.
Only promoted Fulham were beaten 2-0 in the second round by Fourth Division side Crawley Town on Tuesday, so there will be plenty of clashes between elite teams.
United will host Aston Villa
So, Manchester United will face Aston Villa at Old Trafford, while Arsenal, the current leader of the Premier League with a full 9 points, will host Brighton.
Tottenham will visit newly promoted Nottingham Forest, while defending champions Liverpool host Third-placed Derby County.
