“It’s been a tough year as Ana Rosa fills the set”

Date:

The journalist premiered in ‘The Summer Program’ in the mornings of Telecinco

She spends the rest of the year as a current affairs reporter on Telecinco’s leading morning show, but this summer she made her debut as a presenter. The journalist Beatriz Archidona will lead ‘The Summer Program’ in the second half of August (8:55 am). It will do this until the start of the new season, which will mark Ana Rosa Quintana’s return to television after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

How do you estimate the first weeks as a presenter?

I enjoy the moment and learn from my teammates. We would like to bring other news as it has been a complicated summer with the issue of fires and droughts, but professionally I benefit and learn a lot from Mediaset, a communications group that gives you an invaluable background.

What was the first thing that came to your mind when it was offered to you?

I had a lot of giddiness and responsibility for this program, which we know what it means, and also for Telecinco. He had done other magazines before (he presented ‘120 minutes’ on Telemadrid), but on this channel everything changes. It is a responsibility, but also a great challenge.

Did you have to set your alarm clock ahead?

I still stick to my schedule. At 6 am I am already on Telecinco and get up an hour earlier to update myself with the press and see the last hours. Then I go to the newsroom, we have the overview meeting and the machine starts to start the program just before 9:00 am. At the end of the format, we never disconnect because we are always glued to the present.

Does the pressure for the public also continue in the summer?

Self-question is always important and it is normal for the audience to look at each other. I try to enjoy it for the part that touches me, take it to the learning, to the professional background and to the moment I live in Mediaset. I try to enjoy it more than being so aware of a figure that you also have to look at it to improve. That little conspiracy that comes to me when presenting ‘The Summer Program’ for a few weeks, because I want to enjoy it.

The rest of the year we see him in current affairs, but now also in the social chronicle.

I enjoy the whole program. There are many hours of broadcasting and when I join the ‘social club’ it is a moment of relaxation, of a conversation between friends. Themes let you relax a bit. I smile and feel very comfortable with my peers. I’ve never worked on this part of the show, but I’m enjoying it anyway. It is a little appreciated to remove the formality of the first hour of the day.

It’s common for politicians to point out ‘The Ana Rosa Program’ on networks, even those who are still active. What responds to criticism?

The answer to be given is to continue with the work as we know. Provide good information, in a language that everyone understands. Talk about the economy from the family’s point of view, that’s what interests us all. That is, to translate the language that politicians sometimes, in their daily lives, get lost and we bring it to reality, with testimonials, faces and faces showing the consequences of their policies. Criticized or not, I think ultimately our way is to be close, to tell the information in a simple way and also with neutrality, because politicians of all colors enter our program.

Do you remember your first time in the morning format?

I remember with great fondness my first coverage of ‘El programa de Ana Rosa’. I came in in the summer and they sent me to Greece for almost a month, then the corralito of the year 2015. The direct ones there were brutal. It was my contact with the medium of television and it was a very special report that also made me enthusiastic. When I first came to the program, I had a feeling of dizziness, similar to the feeling I had when I was standing in front of the magazine. The reception by colleagues was great. The people I spoke to on the first day are friends of mine. The companions go to one and I think that’s the secret of the program.

How did you handle Ana Rosa Quintana’s absence from the program?

It’s been a rough year as Ana Rosa has a personality that fills the set and the newsroom. He’s missed. The companions, Patricia Pardo and Ana Terradillos, who are wonderful, have made it possible for us to cope with the absence. We are really looking forward to it coming back. Ana Rosa is how you see her on screen. She is affectionate, close and demanding.

Will you continue as a presenter in the new season?

I will be where I need to stay, doing my daily work, also with issues of politics, economy and consumption, which is very important. I’ll continue at the bottom of the canyon because this is a team and we’re all rowing in favor no matter where they place you. The goal is to keep working every day and improve ourselves.
