An outstanding De Ketelaere launched Milan into the lead

Date:

Milan, the defending champion, became the temporary leader of Serie A after easily defeating Bologna (2-0). With 7 points from 3 games, the ‘rossoneri’ reached first place thanks to a better goal difference than Lazio, Roma, and Torino.

Stefano Pioli started Charles De Ketelaere, Milan’s star signing, for the first time, and the 21-year-old Belgian playmaker was the most outstanding player of the match for his quality and physical power which gave -allow him to create some amazing transitions.

In one of them, he made a steal near the center circle, ran down the pitch and Rafael Leao beat Lukasz Skorupski with a low shot at the near post (21′). The Polish goalkeeper was not successful in this step but eventually he made a few saves and prevented his team from going into the break with a heavy defeat.

Great Leao-Giroud connection for 2-0

After the break, Milan achieved the goal of silence with a quality action both in the middle of Rafael Leao, another of the standouts, and in the shot of Olivier Giroud, who held the ball well enough with an acrobatic jump so that kisses the net by the post (58′). It was the Frenchman’s first league goal and at 2-0 Pioli decided to replace De Ketelaere.

Sinisa Mihajlovic’s Bologna, who have added just one point in the first three match days, barely troubled a clearly superior Milan and their best chance was a Nicola Sansone whiplash that brought back a place.
