Around 2,000 fans gathered this morning in San Mamés to attend live Ander Herrera’s performance as an Athletic player. The Bilbao footballer arrived on loan from PSG for one season, but all the agents involved in this operation believe that he will act like a lion for at least this and another campaign. The ‘rojiblanco’ midfielder is ready to make his debut tomorrow in Cádiz.
“It took longer than expected at times which was a bit annoying, but I’m here today and I have a mad desire to start with my teammates and Valverde, something I’ve thought about many times this week. Starting from second period with a wonderful Lezama, that San Mamés has finished, with the cheering crowd that echoed these first two games, with some of the teammates that I have been there and with new generations with many talent”, argued Herrera.
The Bilbao footballer admitted that “I spoke with Valverde two weeks ago, but not about the sporting aspects. I wish to put my qualities and experience at the service of Athletic because it is a youth team. I resemble of Herrera who left for Manchester eight years ago with the same illusion, the same love for the game and the profession, putting the goals of the team and the club before personal ones.”
Regarding his second spell in Bilbao, Ander Herrera emphasized “how special this club is. You leave Athletic, but Athletic does not leave you. This club marks you, even if I am not a cradle athlete. I enjoyed a lot and I’m grateful to Manchester and PSG, but I am always in touch with Athletic. I have seen 80% of their games since I left. My motivation is the same as before and shared I have the goals set by Muniain, the president and Valverde Europe often calls us all. My idea is to stay here for two years.”
The rojiblanco also pointed out that “I have had other options, but my agent already knew that there were few places that excited me. Here in the squad I can say that I have friends like Balen, Demar, Iker… But there are also the likes of Gurpegi, Iraola , Iraizoz and Aduriz, among others, who marked me when I was young. I come from two clubs that demand a lot and I hope that the kids have a reflection on me that I have on them”.
