Liverpool followed up with Isak’s goal on his debut in added time

Date:

Liverpool today achieved three points of their game against Newcastle in a dramatic way, although clearly deserved for their persistence and dominance (2-1). After conceding Alexander Isak’s goal on his Premier debut in the first half, the ‘reds’ equalized on the hour mark through Roberto Firmino and, with time on the clock, Fabio Carvalho sealed the victory in another magical chapter of the legendary that Anfield.

It was difficult for Liverpool to develop the game due to the casualties, among others, of Darwin Núñez, who served his third and final suspension after his dismissal on the second day of the match against Crystal Palace, and Thiago Alcantara. If on Saturday he endorsed a historic 9-0 in Nottingham, today he collapsed for an hour against goalkeeper Nick Pope and the solid defense of Newcastle.

The ‘reds’ dropped their game on the left wing, but Luis Diaz was unsuccessful in his duel with Kieran Trippier, while Mohamed Salah was also unable to join Matt Targett on the right.

Isak opened the scoring

Despite the absence of Allan Saint-Maximin, author of a great goal on Sunday against Wolves (1-1), Newcastle was the only team to shoot between the three posts in the first half. First with a free kick that did not surprise Alisson and later with the goal.

Isak appeared in a shot from the edge of the area that rose, when he received a solitary pass from Sean Longstaff after a poor rejection by the local defence, and the former Real Sociedad striker took advantage of his teammate’s good pass to beat Alisson in cold blood with an inserted shot.

Isak is annulled 0-2

After the break an effective Isak scored again before being substituted. He got away with a long ball and, after two cuts into the area, scored a great goal, but the referee disallowed the goal for offside early in the game (54′).

This action acted as a shock to Liverpool, who were tied shortly afterwards. Salah finally finds space to run and sends Firmino back, who crosses the net first (60′).

It was the second well-directed shot from the ‘reds’, who from that moment on completely contained a Newcastle that no longer showed signs of life in attack and focused their efforts on maintaining the tie.

The magic of Anfield

He almost got it with an overconfident Pope who frustrated Liverpool’s chances time and time again despite his lack of foresight. But where the ideas don’t come, the drive and magic of Anfield. With injury time running out, youngster Fabio Carvalho fired home Pope with a shot from close range after the chaos that followed the launch of a corner.

Liverpool thus achieved its second consecutive victory after its poor start in the Premier League and, with 8 points, follows 7 behind the leader Arsenal. Meanwhile, Newcastle suffered their first defeat after three straight draws.
