Confidential Box: My proposal, free TV every Saturday, free entry at -16 and mandatory number 1

THE PROPOSAL: Free-to-air TV every Saturday, free admission up to -16, mandatory #1

Here in Misano, today DORNA presented the results of a survey conducted among MotoGP fans to understand where their product is and how to improve it. A survey, by the way, was not conducted by DORNA itself, but by the same media group that previously conducted a similar survey of F1 and American Indy. The result should help DORNA continue to introduce new things in the MotoGP format, such as those presented in Austria two weeks ago that will aim to increase visibility and the number of followers. A goal that, in my opinion, will be helped by actions such as the new “sprint races” every Saturday that are given on free-to-air television; free access to the circuits for children under 16, as the sponsor of the last French GP did; or #1 is mandatory on the World Champion’s bike. The first two are carried out as a hook to attract new people to MotoGP, and the third so that “non-experts” can determine the benchmark of the new sport they follow. Of course this will require complex negotiations with pay television, GGPP sponsors and rider marketing, but if the goal is to increase, improve or whatever you want to call the visibility of MotoGP, there is no other way to do it. decisions than They can be complicated to apply. But that, I take for granted, is on the salaries of those responsible for DORNA.

THE FUTURE: Without gears, 230 kg, 150 hp and 270 km/h… are the numbers of the future electric Ducati.

The Moto E World Cup will close its fourth season here in Italy after which it will undergo an important change: the arrival of a new motorcycle supplier. The Energica Ego Corsas whose championship was given the green light in 2019 will be replaced by Ducatis V21L, a motorcycle developed by the Borgo Panigale factory throughout the year and whose characteristics were presented yesterday to the managers of the teams they currently participate in in Moto E. The fact that one of the factories present in MotoGP has finally become involved in this category is an important boost for the Moto E World Cup. The V21L is a true competition bike, designed from a blank page thinking exclusively of achieving the best possible performance. Technologically, it is interesting. The battery, for example, acts as a chassis, with the steering head structure fixed at the front and the swingarm anchorage and the structure holding the tail at the rear. Compared to the 260 kg of the current Energica, the V21L weighs 225 kg, and at Mugello it reached 275 km/h. “The noise was like a plane taking off,” said Michelle Pirro, Ducati test pilot. The power of the prototypes is currently 150 hp and in 2023 the Moto E Cup should be held in 16 races held in eight GGPP.

EXODUS: KTM continues to fish in Ducati waters.

The list of engineers swapping Ducati red for KTM orange adds two new names. The first is Fabiano Sterlacchini, former right-hand man of Gigi Dall’Igna and now Technical Director of the MotoGP project at KTM; He was followed by Francesco Guidotti, former Manager of Team Pramac, who now acts as such in the official Austrian factory team. The next two to join are Cristian Pupulin, track engineer for Jack Miller at Ducati, who will join the official KTM team. The latest to join this exodus is fellow engineer Alberto Giribuola, three-time runner-up in the MotoGP World Championship with Andrea Dovizioso, and the man behind Enea Bastianini’s good work. Giribuola was thus expected to join Bastianini in the Ducati factory team, but his confrontations with Gigi Dall’Igna during the Dovizioso era defeat logic. I don’t know who said no to whom, but I’m sure it was a setback for Enea who had to start from scratch with a new track engineer. Ducati, for its part, will be left without another engineer with proven experience and competitiveness, who will apply the same thing to KTM… The Austrian brand has the courage to do the best in baskets.
