The summary of the sixth day of the US Open

With strength and without suffering, Rafa Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz sealed their passage to the round of 16 of the US Open on Saturday.a round without Garbiñe Muguruza, who had two match points but ended up falling to Czech Petra Kvitova after a great match.

After coming back from a set down in the first and second rounds, Nadal gave himself Saturday a peaceful victory over Frenchman Richard Gasquet, also 36, whom he crushed 6-0, 6-1 and 7-5 in two hours and 17 minutes.

Gasquet had a real curse against Nadal, beating him in each of the 18 games they played and winning 34 straight sets.

In the round of 16 they will face the American Frances Tiafoewho beat Argentine Diego Schwartzman in the third round 7-6(7), 6-4, 6-4 in 3 hours and two minutes.

In its part, Alcaraz, with amazing tennis and great self-confidence, defeated the American Jenson Brooksby for a triple 6-3 in two hours and 11 minutes.

In his three matches at this edition of the US Open, Alcaraz is undefeated and in the round of 16 he will face Croatian Marin Cilic.

Additionally, Alcaraz earned his 47th victory of the season thus he is currently the tennis player with the most wins in 2022.

The sad note was set for the Spanish delegation Garbiñe Muguruza, who had a very good match against Kvitova but eventually lost 5-7, 6-3 and 7-6(10) a duel in which he had two match points over the other and in which he also had one service to take the match.

Also, the Spanish couple formed by Feliciano López and Jaume Munar had a bye in the second round after losing 6-3 and 6-4 against Brazilian Marcelo Demoliner and Portuguese João Sousa.

Apart from the performance of the Spaniards, the sixth day of the US Open was marked by the victories of the favorites.

So, the Polish Iga Swiatek, number one in the WTA who beat the American Lauren Davis, went to the round of 16; the British Cameron Norrie, seventh seeded and defeated the Danish Holger Rune; the Italian Jannik Sinner, who beat Brandon Nakashima 3-6, 6-4, 6-1, 6-2 or Russian Andrey Rublev, ninth favorite and beat Canadian Denis Shapovalov in a great game that was resolved in five sets after more than four hours.
