Alberto Puyuelo tops the Spanish list for the European 50km

Spanish 50 km champion Alberto Puyuelo led the call announced this Monday by the coach Athletics Spaniard, José Peiró, for the first IAU 50km European Championship, which will be held on October 8 in Sotillo de la Adrada (Ávila).

Spain will be represented in the historic first edition of the ultra-distance tournament by a group of 10 athletes (6 men and 4 women), among them is, in addition to Puyuelo, the champion of the Spanish marathon, Yésica Más.

The rest of the expedition consists of Severino Felipe and Carles Montflor, second and third respectively in the 50km Spanish championship, with Roger Roca and Daniel Hernando on the men’s side; and Maite Etxezarreta, Bárbara Ramón and Pilar Rubio, third in Spain in the marathon, on the female side.

The European Championship will be played individually and in teams, where the sum of the three best times from each country will determine the final classification. The tests will start at 9:00 am and the route will consist of 10 laps of the 5km urban circuit, starting and ending at the “La Pasada” Cultural Center.

This is also the second Spanish participation in a 50km distance championship after the 2019 world championship, where the first edition Iraitz Arrospide was champion, holder of the Spanish record with 2h47:51, while Alicia Pérez, who record holder Spanish woman (3h15:09) won the bronze medal.
