British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss has won the Conservative Party primaries to replace the current leader, Boris Johnson, who resigned in July, making him the new UK Prime Minister will be.
Truss has won the final vote over former finance minister Rishi Sunak and will formally become prime minister on Tuesday, when she travels to Balmoral to meet Queen Elizabeth II. The renewal process announced by Johnson in his resignation speech on July 7 will then be completed.
Liz Truss takes over at Downing Street with a continuous profile regarding the guidelines of his predecessor, Boris Johnson. Jump to the highest political responsibility in the United Kingdom from the Foreign Office and with the challenge of: back to the ‘tories’ the lost shine.
truss, from 47 years, was born in the English city of Oxford, into a family she herself has described as left-wing. He already started his political activism in his university phase, with an initial leaning towards the Liberal Democratic Party.
It was then that his sympathy for the Conservative Party changed, although his professional career initially led not to politics, but to private business, as an accountant. In 2000, she married her husband, Hugh O’Leary, with whom she has two children.
She first tried to become an MP in the House of Commons in the 2001 elections. He lost on this first attempt and also on the second four years later, both times to the West Yorkshire constituencies. It was not until 2006 that he took up public office as a councilor in Greenwich, just outside London.
A year later, David Cameron noticed her and in the 2010 election he chose to run her for deputy in a seat the ‘Tories’ took for granted, in the bastion of South West Norfolk. The party’s bases tried unsuccessfully to challenge his candidacy for the “affair” with the deputy and Truss eventually entered the House of Commons.
His entry into government came just two years later, in the Ministry of Education, and in 2014 he made the leap to Environment.
Truss opposed the Brexit and when it was confirmed that the UK would leave the EU, he made an effort to defend the opportunities that this divorce brought.
With Boris Johnson already prime minister, she assumed responsibility for international trade within the cabinet in 2019 and was appointed Secretary of State two years later. now it becomes the third woman living in Downing Streetafter Margaret Thatcher (1979-1990) and Theresa May (2016-2019), all three members of the same party.
