The legendary javelin thrower, 41, thanked his parents and his partner for being by his side “all the time”, and also had words of love for his coaches and for the president of the Czech Athletics Association , Libor Varhaník.

“I want to thank everyone who was by my side all the time. First of all, of course, there are my parents and Lukáš. Many thanks also to the coaches Rudo Černý, Honzo Železný and Honzo Tylč. I must not forget Libor Varhaník, who took good care of me all the time, and Jaroslav Priščák, who brought me to Dukla,” expressed Špotáková.

Varhaník, who was present at the press conference, spoke kindly to him in response: “Bára has brought us great joy with his achievements for many years. He wins as much as possible, motivates and inspires us all.”

Returning to the floor, Špotáková acknowledged that she was not satisfied with the last race of her life in Thursday’s finals in Zurich, but considered her third place in the past Europeans in Munich as her true farewell: “Although I was upset about my problems in the Diamond League final, I didn’t even think it was my last race. It was stronger in Munich because I was with my loved ones there.”

The three-time world champion in Osaka 2007 (Japan), Daegu 2011 (South Korea) and London 2017 (United Kingdom), had time to reveal his plans for the future: “First of all, I want to be a mother now. The children are nine and four. I feel like they need me now.”

“I find that I have more fun when they play sports than when I do. Last year, I had to take a lot of care of myself to stay as healthy as possible and I missed the joy of athletics. I enjoy it more I still do my children’s sports”, added the decorated athlete.

Nevertheless, he admitted that he wanted to pass on his experience “to young athletes”: “I think I have enough and I have something to pass on to them. But now I need to rest for a while and recharge my batteries.”

To all her previous successes, before retiring from professional sport, Špotáková also added another world runner-up finish in Berlin 2009 (Germany), and four podiums at the European Championships, with gold in Zurich 2014, silver in Gothenburg 2006 (Sweden), which was his first major medal, and two bronzes, in Barcelona 2010 and a few weeks ago in Munich.

Completing his extraordinary record, he continues to hold the javelin throw world record (72.28 m) he set in 2008, and is a five-time winner of the final competition of his career, the Diamond League (2010, 2012, 2014, 2015). ). and 2017). In his country, in addition, he leads the specialty winning fifteen championships in the Czech Republic.
