Southgate’s new goalscorer against Italy and England

Date:

Brentford striker Ivan Toney is the big news in England’s list for Nations League matches against Italy and Germany. This is the first time the 26-year-old attacker has been called up for the English team. Until March 2020, Toney played for Peterborough United in League One (the English Third Division). Now he dreams of going to the 2020 Qatar World Cup.

Toney has scored 5 goals in the current Premier League, including a hat trick against Leeds. Because of his good form, Gareth Southgate, England coach, decided to give him this opportunity that the Brentford striker dreamed of. Eric Dier, who has not played for England since 2020, is back on the list.

England, without an injury to Jordan Pickford, are at the bottom of their Nations League group with only matchdays remaining. The ‘pross’ are 5 points behind Hungary, the surprise leaders. The classification is as follows: 1. Hungary, 7 points; 2. Germany, 6; 3. Italy, 5; 4. England, 2.

The team led by Southgate will face Italy in Milan (in a replay of the final of the last European Championshipwon on penalties by the ‘azzurri’) on September 23 and host Germany at Wembley on the 26th of this month.
