The French Cycling Federation (FFC) has received a lot of criticism for paying for air tickets to Australia in business class for menincluding reigning world champion Julian Alaphilippe, while women and other delegations are only entitled to economy tickets.
The newspaper “Ouest France” announced the case and a current of outrage was quickly created on weekends, especially on social media.
The FFC did not officially respond, but a spokesperson explained that to the publication it had to “save” on this long (20 hours) and expensive trip.
He justified the move to the higher category because the men are defending the world title at the Australian championships, which start this Sunday in Wollongong.
