Izan Guevara debut leadership with success from start to finish

The Majorcan It’s Guevara celebrated his debut as Moto3 World Championship leader with a start-to-finish victory at the Moto3 Aragon GP, the fourth of the year in which he reached the championship since he entered with an 11 point advantage and left with 33 to García Dols and 58 to Foggia who entered 13th and 14th.

For the fourth time Izan Guevara started from the pole in the World Championship. In the previous three in Qatar he was penalized for starting last and lost the advantage and both at Jerez and at the Sachsenring he won the race. Last year he was fourth in the race, but in his junior stage he starred in real spectacles in Aragón with three wins. In a friendly circuit and throughout the sporting streak, it was about the consolidation of leadership that it cost him so much to win in the shadow of his teammate García Dols and faith that he achieved it. And a beautiful celebration was invented in the closed park doing a handstand.

From pole position, the Spaniard maintained the initiative ahead of his front-row mates Sasaki and Holgado and so they stayed until the checkered flag. Although at Aragon it was always going to be very difficult to break away on the long straight for his first GP as the leader of the Moto3 World Championship, he took it seriously to make a quick pick of the group and in two laps only five riders had followed his pace, leaving riders like Oncu cut off , Muñoz, García Dols, Masiá or Foggia, too vague.

After one lap, only Sasaki and Holgado could catch up with Guevara, the regulars who ride at 1’57”, but they don’t give him any comfort because they can’t either. In seven laps the chasing group has lost ground the four. seconds not even with Oncu , the leader of the free and the best in the warmup, who pulled them.

With four remaining, reigning FIM CEV Moto3 champion Holgado stayed put and left Guevara and Sasaki in the lead to fight for victory. The third box and the first of his World Cup career was reached by the rookie from Sant Vicenç del Raspeig because the fourth Oncu was 9″4 away from him.
