Bautista leads FP2 and the combined Jonathan Rea

Rea took the initiative at the start of the championship and dominated the first free session with a time of 1’49.301. At the end of the day, this opportunity allowed him to stay ahead of the joint Friday after the second training session where he posted the second fastest time, behind Bautista.

Three independent riders finished the day in the top nine and the most notable was Garrett Gerloff (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team), who posted the fourth fastest time.

The other two national category representatives, Iker Lecuona and Xavi Vierge, who are still suffering from his recent injury, reached 10th (1’50.540) and 13th (1’50.787) positions respectively.

In the Supersport 300 category, the fastest was Marc García in his Yamaha (2’06.564), followed by Álvaro Díaz (2’06.599) and Bruno Ieraci (2’06.770) in third place. Equality is highest in this category: the five fastest drivers are separated by only 7 tenths of a second. While the fastest in Supersport was Dominique Aegerter (1’53.407), followed by Nicoló Bulega (1’53.986) and Lorenzo Baldassarri (1’54.641).

Rea signed up for the first free practice of the year

In the morning, Jonathan Rea started the 2022 campaign with the best time in the first free training session on the MotorLand Aragón circuit in Alcañiz (Teruel), three tenths ahead of current world champion, Toprak Razgatlioglu.

Rea faced stiff opposition from Toprak Razgatlioglu, who at the end of the session recorded a time of 1’49.665, just 0.364 behind his rival, while Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing-Ducati) finished third with seven tenths more.

Rea’s teammate, Alex Lowes, achieved the fourth best time after occupying second position for most of the session.

Less than a tenth behind Lowes, Álvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing-Ducati) set the fifth fastest time ahead of Garrett Gerloff (GYTR GRT Yamaha), who was the last in the group to record a time under a seconds from the British. Valencian Iker Lecuona (HRC) entered the ‘Top 10’ achieving ninth place with a record of 1’50.540
