Berrettini left Italy first and Croatia qualified

Date:

Matteo Berrettini was imposed by a double 6-4 in swedish Elijah Ymer and sealed the first place for Italy, who will attend the Finals of the Malaga Davis Cup as champion of Group A, while Croatia will do it as a second.

With Berrettini’s help, Italy got the point it needed to secure the Unipol group championship in Bologna. By passing, he left Sweden, his rival this Sunday, with no options. It was Croatia, which on Saturday defeated Argentina, that reached the quarterfinals as the second.

Matteo Berretini had no complications to defeat Elias Ymer 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 17 minutes. He already beat the Scandinavian in 2018, on clay, in Budapest, also 2-0.

The victory puts Italy with a 1-0 lead in the series against Sweden which completes Group A of the Davis Cup.

Next, with nothing at stake, Jannik Sinner takes on Mikael Ymer and finally, the doubles between locals Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini and visitors Andre Goeransson and Elias Ymer.
