Borja Iglesias: “I remember from childhood having a relationship with Fernando Torres”

Borja Iglesias, Betis striker living through his early days in the Spanish team, expressed his admiration for a player who marked an era as an international, Fernando Torres, where he learned as a striker and as a person after a few games when he was young.

“I really like to look at strikers with different styles because it makes me very healthy. I remember since I was little having an idyll with Fernando Torres, I have always liked him a lot,” Borja admitted in an interview with the Federation the day he fulfilled his dream of reaching the Spanish team.

“I was able to go with Fernando because he often goes to Santiago de Compostela because his wife is from there and he is the first professional soccer player I met in person. He always treated me very well, he was very close and now when the children approach me, I think at that moment that I approached him with a super cut and he was very close. He put his hand on my shoulder and thanked me for coming. Now we talk, we exchange messages and I am very grateful for how he always treats me,” he added.

In the past, Borja met coach Luis Enrique when he was at the Celta de Vigo youth academy. and he was called to train with the first team. “The memory I have is that he always made me feel very good, one more, very close. Helping me and explaining to me what he thought I could contribute. I’m still young and it’s hard to contribute because the forwards are so good. It’s special to meet again”, said.

Proud to have gotten Luis Enrique’s call, Borja Iglesias came to the national team ready to earn a positionbut, above all, to enjoy a moment for which he fought for a long time.

“When you are little, you think that it is a dream that is very easy to achieve, but later when you complete the years and stages, you realize how difficult it is and that it will never come. Being able to be here is an honor, it’s a big prize. I’m glad my family and friends enjoyed being with me. It’s very special,” he said.

“I come to enjoy it, I am very happy to be here and I’m going to try to contribute as much as I can, to learn. It is an experience that not everyone has despite the fact that we all work for it. I’ll try to help enjoy it”, he added.

Borja assured him that he had “desire” to wear the new Spanish team shirt who will debut against Switzerland and Portugal in the League of Nations, and will spend the World Cup in Qatar with him: “I hope to hear the anthem and live these moments with great enthusiasm”.
